The Earth provides us with abundant food, supplies us with clothing; she also provides us with all the medicine we need to live long and healthy lives. The Earth is our home, a place where we get all that we need and where all of mankind can live and be happy.
In the last few years, we have seen serious mistreatment of the Earth. There has been an increase in water, air, soil and many other types of pollution, which has added to the destruction of the planet. We, as a species, have contributed to that by not being as diligent caretakers as we should be.
The issue could be solved or drastically reduced if everyone all did their part to take care of the Earth. If we all did a little, then we would be able to accomplish a lot. It was with that idea in mind that The DC Dentist was born. It comes from the concept,”let us all do our part.” The DC Dentist is one of the first sustainable dental offices on the East Coast, employing many practices in the construction as well as in the policies and mission of the organization.
When one thinks of being sustainable or eco-friendly, a dental office is usually not one of the first places that comes to mind. At the same time, it is vital that everyone should do what they can, in the area that they hold influence or the area they are able to affect the most. In every aspect of life, we can discover and employ the means to be more sustainable for the Earth. It does not matter if we do it in a dental office, at the grocery store or even as a farmer—there is a lot of work to be done.
One of the questions that is frequently asked of Dr. Terry Victor, founder of The DC Dentist, is why is it important to create a business and practice that is sustainable? Why take the time and effort that is required to do this? The answer is quite simple: it makes the world a better place and helps us be better human beings.
When the idea of what the ideal Earth-friendly dental office would look like was being explored many things came to mind. Now, most of those ideas have been incorporated into our practice. Victor and his team also continue to add, refine and improve upon those things that will make them even more responsible to the planet. The concept of “if we all do a little we can accomplish a lot” has been the driving force in developing The DC Dentist, so they do their part in saving the planet.
